These positions are located within the Environmental Management Service at the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System - Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka, KS. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Performs the tasks given by the supervisor in accordance with in person or written instruction;
- Works independently, or as a contributing member of a teamwork effort;
- Empties and/or relines and cleans inside and outside of trash receptacles;
- Cleans identified isolation areas following prescribed method for cleaning;
- Sets up warning signs and/or barriers when performing cleaning risks or other activities that make an area potentially hazardous;
- Removes isolation/contaminated linen from designated areas to prevent spread of infection using clearly defined linen containers and proper method;
- Cleans pillow, mattress, metal surfaces of bed, bedside stand, over bed table, call-light cord, and bedside chairs;
- Wet mops tile floors and stairways using germicidal detergent to clean surface and reduce levels of pathogens;
- Cleans porcelain, stainless steel and marble/ceramic tile, urinals, toilets, sinks, bathtubs, shower stalls, removing soap scum and body film residues and dirt following prescribed methods;
- Washes walls, changes cubicle curtains, refinishes floors, cleans interior windows, and removes stains and spots from carpet and upholstery;
- Operates high or low speed buffers, automatic scrubbing machine, and wet/dry micro static vacuum cleaner;
- Changes brushes, pads, drive plates on buffers and auto scrubbers, and bags and filters on vacuum cleaners;
- Strips tiled, terrazzo, concrete floors to remove dirt and old finish, using prescribed strippers and equipment;
- Fills paper towel, toilet paper, and soap dispensers using proper supplies and methods;
- Sets up utility closet or housekeeping cart with correct cleaning products, solutions, and equipment;
- Cleans windows, window shades, blinds, fans, light fixtures, and exterior surfaces of air vents and diffusers using proper cleaning solution equipment and proper method;
- Cleans non-critical reusable medical equipment including but not limited to IV pumps, bedside commodes, etc.;
- Works in patient care and office areas where some human relation skills are needed; and,
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
