About the Positions:
Detroit District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is actively soliciting applications from U.S. Citizens who are seeking temporary employment during the Spring and/or Summer seasons. Start dates will be set between the months of May and June 2017; employment duration may be up to six (6) months.
- Positions will be filled at the WG-02 grade level. The grade offered will be based on HR review of your application package and responses to the occupational questionnaire. Positions do not provide promotion potential or offer career progression.
- You must be at least 18 years old by your first official workday.
- If selected and not currently residing in the local commuting area of the position's duty location, you must be willing to relocate to the commuting area within 30 days of accepting the tentative job offer. Relocation costs will not be paid or reimbursed. Employer-sponsored housing is not available and will not be authorized.
Duties
As a Laborer, you will assist skilled trades or craftsmen by retrieving tools or materials. You will move, sort, arrange, and stack a large variety of supply items; load and unload trucks and other conveyances; cut and clear brush; grease dam machinery; set forms, mix and pour concrete; and operate a power lawn mower. You may occasionally operate a jack hammer or other power tools.
Working Conditions
Work is performed outside in all kinds of weather, and inside in areas that may be dusty, drafty, and/or noisy. Equipment, tools, and tasks involved at this level frequently require special care to avoid serious injuries. You will also be working on and around river or lake structures, which involves hazards of falling and/or drowning. Work requires continuous standing, walking, and stooping.
Physical Demands
Exerts very heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as frequently lifting and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds, running power mowers on grades or pushing heavy wheel barrow loads of concrete, etc.
