Join the Ontario Science Centre as we launch a new strategic plan and develop plans to celebrate our 50th anniversary in Fall 2019. As one of Canada's most visited cultural attractions and a world-renowned learning institution, the Ontario Science Centre welcomes one million visitors each year. We offer hands-on experiences and insights into science and technology that help visitors of all ages understand and contribute to the world around us.

The Ontario Science Centre has an exciting opportunity for an individual in the graphic production department. The successful candidate will assist in the manufacturing, maintaining and repairing of exhibits, installations, promotional and directional signs, banners, etc.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• Effect the design and implementation process by making suggestions to clients and/or the supervisor regarding capabilities and limitations of production process
• Use your unique skillset to produce high quality exhibit graphics for traveling shows and in-house exhibitions
• Implement existing designs and design standards in a variety of 2D and at times 3D formats
• Bring your enthusiasm for design and creative thinking to a production environment and work collaboratively with a wide variety of likeminded people
• Learn and work together with a large group with a wide variety of skillsets
• Lift and load print media (up to 50 lbs) and work at heights (e.g. ladders).

How do I qualify?

Technical Knowledge and Skills

• You have extensive knowledge and experience in graphic production and an understanding of industry standards for custom graphic applications, vinyl applications, lamination, printing, software, layout, production materials and studio skills
• You have thorough knowledge and experience with large format printing tools and equipment
• You have proven ability to produce finished product from designer's sketch or blueprints
• You have the ability to cost print jobs and recommend best material, optimal production and delivery options to customers
• You can operate digital equipment and common office equipment
• You have knowledge of colour theory and signage strategies
• You have sound knowledge of design software, including Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Distiller, Acrobat)

Communications Skills

• You have strong interpersonal, well developed oral and written communication and customer service skills to deal effectively with external and internal clients
• You have strong collaborative skills and can develop and maintain effective working relationships

Organization Skills

• You have proven organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects and schedules and set priorities; proven experience projecting expenditures.

Health & Safety

• You have thorough knowledge of relevant safety procedures including WHMIS.
• You maintain a current knowledge of developments and safety standards within own trade

Analytical, Reasoning, Problem Solving Skills

• You have problem solving skills to resolve technical problems, to overcome current challenges and to provide input for possible improvement
• You are resourceful in obtaining the necessary information for the development and/or repair of exhibits from a wide variety of sources
