Duties
DutiesProvides general labour and maintenance support for Parks Canada Agency buildings/facilities and grounds to support operations in Northern Manitoba.
Based in Churchill Manitoba, the successful candidate will assist our asset maintenance technicians with skilled and semi-skilled maintenance work on buildings, facilities, equipment and grounds at one or several of the following locations: Parks Canada’s Visitor Centre and administrative buildings in Churchill, Prince of Wales Fort National Historic Site, York Factory National Historic Site, Wapusk National Park.

• Experience in performing general operational maintenance tasks and labour support.
• Experience operating manual and power tools and equipment such as all-terrain vehicles, light trucks, lawn mowers, grass trimers, etc.
• Experience using various computer programs and data management.

• Knowledge of terrestrial environment, vegetation and wildlife characteristics, as well as climatic conditions specific to Churchill, Manitoba and surrounding area.

Conditions of employment

• Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status Security Clearance
• Be capable of lifting heavy objects up to 25 kg or more
• Be mechanically inclined
• Be able to find own housing in area
• Be able to work in inclement weather when required
• Be exposed to risk for minor injury when performing cleaning and minor maintenance activities
• Wear a uniform as per Parks Canada Uniform Policy and prescribed protective equipment
• Work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial holidays, when required
• Work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation (helicopters, float plane, motor boat), when required
• Complete training and obtain certification as required (e.g. First Aid, Polar Bear Guard Certification).
