This position is located at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, Security Division in Washington D.C. Responsibilities
As a Security Guard, you will:
- Display a customer service attitude toward the residents, employees and visitors.
- Respond to emergency and/or routine calls within the AFRH.
- Tour the entire facility of the AFRH on foot and/or by patrol vehicle.
- Write ticket citations for parking, speeding and any and all other traffic violations.
- Secure or stand guard at any unsecured building or room until properly relieved by your supervisor.

Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Medical Requirements: The duties of these positions require moderate to arduous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature. The following medical requirements apply to all applicants: good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice. Specialized Experience: For the GS-05, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Forces or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.
Time-in-grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-5, you must have been at the GS-4 level for 52 weeks
Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a nontemporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
