This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available.

This opportunity is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), in Washington, DC. The incumbent will serve as the clerical and administrative assistant to the Chief of Staff for the Bureau.

BSEE has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

Salary Information
GS-08: $49,771 - $64,699 per annum. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.

Recent Graduates may be converted to a permanent position upon completion of the Pathways Recent Graduate Program.






Duties

At the full performance level (GS-09) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Performs a variety of analytical and administrative duties in support of the office. Is familiar with Microsoft Office or other similar applications in order to prepare presentations, provide statistics and present material in a professional and effective manner.
2. Manages the offices administrative processes and ensures established procedures meet the current needs and are understood and consistently followed by the staff.
3. Reviews and analyzes administrative policies, clarifies complex and confusing guidelines, and makes recommendations to higher level staff for changes to administrative policy. Responds to administrative issues and inquiries, resolving a variety of conflicts regarding administrative policies and processes among organizational issues.
4. As required, researches available background data, coordinates tasking of subordinate staff and follows up to see that subordinate offices submit required answers within the specified time. Assembles and arranges information for use in briefings and as conference aids. This research effort may include previous files, related reports and correspondence, statistics, and other pertinent materials. Reviews materials related to budget and procurement documents associated with special projects requested by the Director/ Deputy Director/ Associate Director.
5. Maintains the calendar for staff, schedules appointments and conferences based on personal knowledge of the workload and priorities of the office.
6. Drafts letters and memoranda from verbal and written instructions and prepares for signature.
7. Answers telephone messages. If the call is for the Director/ Deputy Director/ Associate Director, obtains pertinent background information for his/her use. Screen telephone calls and visitors to the Chief of Staff, personally handling those not requiring technical assistance, referring those questions and problems within the realm of their expertise to the staff.
