About the Position: Located at a large acute care Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) comprised of approximately 80 medical departments and subspecialties with approximately 15,000 inpatient dispositions annually. This MTF is a major teaching and residency training facility for the Department of Defense (DoD) and also trains medical students from all branches of the uniformed services.

Duties
As a Transcription Review Clerk you will use office automation systems to accomplish work including text editing; file creation, maintenance, and retrieval; and use of message, calendar, and suspense systems. Use advanced functions of a variety of software utilities and function commands to manipulate text. Maintain record of, monitor, review, correct or reject transcription work performed by a contract firm for accuracy and quantity, and maintain all pertinent records. Prepare all transcribed documents including: corrections; distribution to customers; checking documents into Composite Health Care System (CHCS) or related system; and verification of status reports. Maintain a delinquent list of non-dictated operative notes and contact physician within 24 hours to ensure compliance of regulations. Must have a comprehensive knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation and required formats to include narrative summaries and a variety of reports.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: includes using office automation software such as word processing and spreadsheets; using medical terminology; transcribing materials; reviewing medical records for accuracy; and entering documents into a medical record system such as Composite Health Care System (CHCS), Essentris, or Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:
Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-06: Successful completion of at least one half year (9 semester hours) of graduate-level education progressing toward a master's or higher degree that is directly related to the work of the position such as Healthcare Administration and Business Administration. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-06: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
Typing Requirement: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
