About the Agency
The Anacostia Community Museum (ACM) was established by the Smithsonian Institution in September 1967 as the Anacostia Neighborhood Museum in Southeast Washington, D.C. Its vision is to challenge perceptions, generate new knowledge, and deepen understanding about the ever-changing concepts and realities of communities. The Museum’s mission is to enhance understanding of contemporary urban experiences and strengthen community bonds by conserving the past, documenting the present, and serving as a catalyst for shaping the future through the development of collections, exhibitions, and research, education and public programs. ACM collects artifacts, works of art, photographs, documents and paper records, audiovisual media.

Duties
The Registrar responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- maintaining electronic and hardcopy of all records of accession, condition, and location of objects in museum collections;
- working with museum personnel and vendors (such as curators, conservators, exhibit specialists etc.) to initiate the most practical methods of handling, packing and shipping fragile or valuable objects entering and leaving the museum, including traveling exhibits;
- tracking and handling objects that are borrowed or acquired through gift, purchase, bequest, or loan from other museums, institutions, or donors;
- preparing and maintaining documentation that includes insurance logs, registration and shipping transactions, accessions, and purchases;
- negotiating and preparing loan agreements with collectors or institutions, in accordance with internal procedures and best practice in the profession; and
- facilitating collections documentation and access.
