Duties

·  Determine the proper handling and storage of various materials by properly marking, tagging and packing in suitable containers.
·  Place, store and maintain materials in accordance with regulatory and safety requirements.
·  Conduct inventory of stock by counting and maintain tally listings.
·  Verify incoming shipments against shipping documents to ensure accuracy.
·  Operate electric, gasoline, or diesel powered fork lift trucks.
·  Use forklift to load and unload materials
·  Operate other types of vehicles such as stake trucks to perform warehousing operations.
·   Prepare documents for issue and shipment.

Qualifications

Screen Out Element:
Ability to do the work of a Materials Handler without more than normal supervision.
Work of a Materials Handler involves: Shipping, receiving, storing and issuing materials in a warehouse. Receiving, unloading and processing incoming shipments of items arriving via various modes of transportation. Assembling items, grouping material according to receiving vouchers, subgroups based on property class, condition of material and type of transactions. Assure items to be shipped and issued are properly marked, tagged and properly packed in suitable containers. Ensure that stock is properly loaded and braced for shipment. Select and prepare documentation for issue, shipment and receipt of stock. Store, stack and palletize items. Use handcarts, dollies and manual equipment to move stock. Conduct warehouse inventories, maintaining tallies during count. Assist in determining the reasons for overages, shortages, or misplaced items. Operate electric, gasoline, or diesel powered forklift trucks weighing up to 10,000 pounds and as high as 168 inches to load, unload, transfer, transport, stack/unstack palletized goods, boxes, crates, merchandize, materials and supplies from one location to another.

Physical Effort:
Stands, stoops, bends, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for prolonged periods. Frequently lifts and carries material weighing up to 40 pounds, and at times may handle items weighing over 40 pounds. Moderate physical effort is used in operating forklift and motor vehicle hand and foot controls while driving, turning, stopping, and starting the truck. Moderate physical effort is required in raising, lowering, and tilting loads being moved by the forklift.
Working Conditions:
Works inside and outside subject to heat, cold, damp, drafty, or poorly lighted areas. May work on open docks or in storage yards. Work may be dirty, dusty, greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, falls from ladders, or injury from, material handling, or forklift equipment. Subject to broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or when loading and unloading vehicles.
