This position is a permanent (Career/Career-Conditional) Career-Seasonal appointment. Career-Seasonal positions do not provide for employment on a year-round basis. Employee will be guaranteed 26 weeks of full-time/40 hours per week work in a service year. Non-work/non-pay (furlough) periods may vary from year to year depending on current park requirements; non-pay periods will be at least 2 weeks, but not more than 26 weeks in any service year.
This position is located in the Maintenance Division at Petersburg National Battlefield which is located approximately 20 miles south of Richmond, VA. It commemorates the 9 ½ month siege that took place during the Civil War. Petersburg National Battlefield consists of four sites spread across three local government jurisdictions. Each site has its own unique historic story. Summers usually average 85-98 degrees with humidity. Winters usually average 35-55 degrees with frigid nights and a couple of snow falls a year. Duties
Maintenance worker performs simple and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment, and related utilities requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting and other related trades. Assists higher graded maintenance staff members in the performance of their work. Duties also include custodial and maintenance duties of park visitor center, visitor contact stations and offices. Incumbent responsible for cleaning, striping, scrubbing, waxing, shampooing, etc. floors, bathrooms, offices, furnishings, etc.
Physical Demands: Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms and where surfaces to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach that require incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.

Tour of Duty: Will be work schedule of Mon - Fri 7:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (5/4/9 work schedule)Travel Required
