Fort Lee, Home of Logistic Warriors, is a US Army installation located near the Tri-Cities of Petersburg, Colonial Heights, and Hopewell, VA. Fort Lee is south of Richmond, the Capital of Virginia. There are a number of important missions accomplished by the activities located here. The missions accomplished at Fort Lee include combat and training development and the professional development of military personnel through various training programs. The civilian employees serve a vital role in direct support of the US Army mission that is crucial to supporting military operations. Fort Lee offers a broad range of civilian employment opportunities for people.

Duties

• Clear departing personnel to ensure against loss of library materials.
• Explains rules and regulations to all patrons.
• Registers patrons and updates location information as required.
• Reserves books upon request and notifies borrower of availability.
• Assist Patrons in locating various library reference materials.
• Maintains library collections.
• Operate user-access equipment.
• Assist professional staff in locating specialized/technical reference materials.
• Check materials in/out in library database.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: circulation and collection maintenance, ready and general reference, and interlibrary loan services and contacting other lending institutions, libraries and scientific research collections in order to verify availability. Monitor status of materials in-process, shipping status, and the loss/replacement of materials using a substantial knowledge of library specialized and technical holdings.
This position requires a qualified typist able to type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

• Knowledge of Office Automation
• Skill Performing Circulation Duties
• Skill Performing Reference and Research Tasks
• Ability to Communicate Effectively

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.  For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definition below:
Education: A half year (i.e. 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Library Science
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
