Summary
This positions is temporary, has a Not-to-Exceed date and will be filled for up to 6 months or as a not to exceed (NTE) 1 year, however an extension of the appointment may be possible without further competition. The appointment may also end early due to lack of work or funds.
This positions is located on a Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center. The incumbent of this position assists in providing leadership and guidance to students in a group living environment and provides practical counseling to students.

Incumbent serves as an assistant to Social Services Assistant(s) or higher graded employees, providing on-site supervision of students to ensure a safe, healthy atmosphere.
Maintains order and discipline among students both of assigned group and other groups and observes and reports social, behavioral, or disciplinary problems to supervisor. Ensures student compliance with safety rules and regulations in living and working situations.
Assigns individual duties by establishing student work rosters on a rotating basis and ensuring that students adhere to assigned tasks. Provides leadership and direction to students in performing daily housekeeping duties, work details, physical training, recreation, hygiene, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.
NOTE: This position is required to work swing shift and night shift when determined by the needs of the Center.
This position requires the selectee to obtain or possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the appropriate Endorsement(s) as required by the mission. This position is a Test Designated Position (TDP) under the Forest Service/Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Controlled Substances Testing Program. All applicants selected for this position will be required to submit to a pre-employment urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Incumbents of this position will be required to submit to a urinalysis on an ongoing random basis, after appointment as directed.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the selectee to obtain or possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and therefore, is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Department of Transportation (DOT)/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program. Applicant tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use unless they currently occupy a TDP under the DOT/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substances Testing Program. Final appointment is conditional on a negative drug test. This announcement constitutes 30 days advance notice.
Qualifications
You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the appropriate experience requirements.
GS-04: (6) Six months of general experience and (6) Six months of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-03 level. General Experience is defined as: Any type of work that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position.
Specialized Experience is defined as: Group leader in community or residential recreation or training programs. Counselor in a youth summer camp. Instructor in a training program for the development of job skills. Work that demonstrated the ability to be responsible for and to lead and train members of a job crew. Group activities leader in the Armed Services. Unit leader-monitor-proctor for a dormitory group in a boarding school or other residential facility. Aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff in such fields as personnel (private or government), employment guidance in a vocational or academic institution, social service, or manpower development. Aid or assistant to professional or associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature in private, public welfare, government program, or community organizations, or in voluntary activities. Aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff working with individuals who are addicted to or abuse alcohol and/or drugs. -OR
Successful completion of 2 years of study above high school that (a) included at least 12 semester hours of subjects directly related to the work of the position, or (b) was supplemented by experience in activities that afforded the opportunity to acquire and demonstrate the skills required by the position. (The supplementary experience may have been gained, for example, in part-time or summer employment, in volunteer social welfare or recreation programs, or in community organizations.). -OR
A combination of education and experience listed above.
