What can I expect to do in this role?
You will gain a wealth of knowledge and experience delivering a variety of Natural Resource programs to clients within the MNRF Pembroke District area. You will assist and participate in the issuance of permits and authorizations, and support the delivery of resource management planning, monitoring, audit, compliance and implementation activities for the district lands & waters, fish & wildlife, and aggregates programs.How do I qualify?
Qualifications:
• General knowledge of natural resources related legislation and regulations (e.g. Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, Endangered Species Act, Public Lands Act, Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act, Beds of Navigable Waters Act, Aggregate Resources Act, Federal Fisheries Act)• General knowledge of, or the ability to learn and apply, natural resources related policies, procedures, guidelines, and manuals (e.g. Public Lands Policy manual, Provincial Aggregate Standards Manual,) to ensure various resource operations comply with provincial standards and ecological sustainability
• Knowledge of natural resource management operations and techniques (e.g. population surveys/inventories, habitat indices, fish collection; title administration, surveys, appraisals)
• Knowledge of compliance procedures to conduct site reviews and operational audits of individual clients
• Knowledge of personal computers/software including word-processing, GIS, internet and spreadsheet applications to prepare correspondence, reports and maps, input and retrieve data, prepare budgets or reports and track information or expenditures; use internet and e-mail.
• Knowledge of or commitment to learn worker responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Eligibility:
• Proof of eligibility to work in Canada;• Proof of full-time enrolment in a recognized post-secondary college or university or graduation within the last five years;
• Candidates are only eligible to participate in a maximum of two placements and must meet the above eligibility criteria for the duration of both placements.
Please Note: The successful candidate will begin at the base-level pay rate and will move up in the pay scale in accordance with the OPSEU collective agreement.
