Duties
Can you imagine yourself spending the summers working primarily outdoors, traveling by boat throughout the southern Gulf Islands, assisting visitors at campgrounds, and communicating national park conservation objectives to the public? If this sounds like your dream job, look no further – it could be your reality!As a Visitor Services Assistant, your work is focused on facilitating exceptional national park experiences by interacting with local and international visitors, selling camping permits and firewood, registering boaters at mooring buoys and docks, cleaning and maintaining campgrounds, as well as providing information about the park reserve in person, by phone, or electronically. Your daily schedule involves working closely with other team members as you travel to campgrounds and mooring locations throughout the national park reserve, the majority of which are in stunning and remote island locales.
We are hiring several student positions, which may be based in Sidney (Vancouver Island)

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada's outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.Gulf Islands National Park Reserve’s Visitor Services team is looking for summer students who are passionate about the outdoors, demonstrate a high degree of customer service, and are keen on educating visitors about the local, natural, and cultural history of one of Canada’s special places.
Intent of the process

Post-secondary students currently registered in a full-time College or University program who will be returning to full-time studies in the fall.
Degree equivalencyExperience in interacting with the public in a reception/orientation capacity
Experience handling cash and operating point of sale systems
Experience maintaining/restocking supplies and equipment
Experience in cleaning and maintenance of facilities
Experience working closely with other team members
Experience in anticipating/meeting public needs, resolving complaints, anticipating/detecting incidents, and finding solutions.

Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance - Reliability Status security clearance is required.
Be in possession of a valid class 5 driver’s license
To be eligible, you must be:
• a full-time secondary or post-secondary student in an accredited institution;
• currently recognized as having full-time student status by the academic institution in which you are presently enrolled;
• returning to full-time studies in the next academic term;
• between the ages of 16 and 30 to be hired for a student job (Young Canada Works funded positions).
• the minimum age to work in the province where the job exists (Federal Student Work Experience positions).
Students will be asked to provide proof that they meet these requirements.
To be eligible, you must be:
