• Summary

  The selectee for this position will serve as a Antenna Mechanic Helper in the Antenna Maintenance Division of the Telecommunications Department of NAVAL COMMUNICATION.

  Responsibilities

  The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
  

  • You will help repair and maintain a Very Low Frequency (VLF) antenna network consisting of steel towers up to 980 feet, steel counterweight tower up to 200 feet, steel tower up to 90 feet, tophat antenna panels, download antenna systems, helix houses, cross arm clusters, antenna grounding system, transmission line/tunnels, and hoist houses.
  • You will help in continuous visual inspections looking for out of place cables, structural damage, and electrical arcing.
  • You will help with maintenance on Inverted Cones, Conical Monopole, Antenna, and GUYS.
  • You will help the Journeyman Antenna Mechanic by locating coaxial cable leaks and helping with guy retensioning.

  Requirements:
  
  All qualifications requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement and clearly documented in your resume.
  
  Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  
  Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  
  Work is performed outdoors, often under adverse weather conditions.
  
  Work requires frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, working in cramped positions, and climbing.
  
  A favorable Access National Agency Check and Inquiries (ANACI) background investigation is required for all non-critical sensitive positions.
  
  Incumbent will be required to climb towers up to 980 feet in height.
  
  Incumbent will be required to work in fields of RF (Radiofrequency) radiation approximately 50% of the time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Antenna Helper without more than normal supervision such as:
  The ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks including: Helping repair and maintain antenna's up to 980 feet, helix houses, cross arm clusters, antenna grounding system, transmission line/tunnels, and hoist houses. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence.
  The ability to perform the full range of tasks including (Helping to make antenna network repairs by, replacing download system, 3 inch diameter cable, cross lead system, busing switch, and bushing insulators. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.
  The ability to perform common tasks including: Helping to provide visual inspections looking for cables out of place, misplaced wires, broken insulators, broken grounds, vegetation damage, structural damage, and electrical arcing. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
