  These positions may bePart-Time or full-time temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (about 6 months) in a service year. Positions may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement may be eligible for rehire in subsequent service years. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Blue Ridge Parkway is November -May, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: November 2017
  
  Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

  Responsibilities

  Annually plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates the Blue Ridge Parkway's Parks as Classroom education program, ensuring compliance with state Standards of Learning and the park's program guidelines, goals, objectives, and themes. Conducts research and applies knowledge of Southern Appalachian natural and cultural resources to develop and present formal and informal education programs with a focus on grades K-Junior High. Develops written information for district-wide program including pre- and post-visit materials, program reservation forms, and other administrative materials. Contributes to the development of park-wide curriculum materials by developing written program goals, objectives, activity sheets, assessment tools and evaluation forms. Uses effective formal presentation skills and applies grade appropriate resource based teaching techniques for outdoor learning for both rural and urban public and private schools and for home schools in the region. Initiates and maintains formal relationships between the park and a variety of diverse area schools and school administrators to develop, promote, and schedule programs that meet the curriculum standards, teacher's needs, and park goals.

  RIDGE DISTRICT (District Office. Vesuvius VA) Milepost O (Junction of Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive) to Milepost 106 near Roanoke, Virginia, traverses through six counties: Nelson, Augusta, Rockbridge, Amherst, Bedford, and Botetourt.
  PLATEAU DISTRICT (District Office. Floyd, VA) Milepost 106 (near Roanoke, VA) to Milepost 248 (Rt. 18 access to the Parkway in North Carolina) traverses through eight counties in Virginia: Roanoke, Botetourt, Bedford, Franklin, Floyd, Patrick, Carroll, and Grayson and two counties in North Carolina: Alleghany and Wilkes counties - includes Doughton Park.
  HIGHLANDS DISTRICT (District Office, Blowing Rock, NC) Milepost 248 (Rt. 18 access to the Parkway) to Milepost 355 (near Mount Mitchell State Park) traverses through seven counties: Ashe, Caldwell, Watauga, Burke, Avery, McDowell and Mitchell.
  PISGAH DISTRICT {District Office. Oteen. NC) Milepost 355 (near Mount Mitchell State Park) to Milepost 469 at Cherokee, NC traverses through seven counties: Yancey, Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood, Transylvania, Jackson, and Swain.

  Qualifications

  To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
  
  EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: conducting or developing education and training programs as a teacher or teacher's aide in Primary Education; working with land management or conservation organizations as an interpreter or as an aide in an outdoor school or nature-based summer camp for youth; and knowledge of instruction methods, learning process, and curriculum development. You must include hours per week worked.
  -OR-
  EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate level education. (One year of graduate education is 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours). You must include transcripts.
  -OR-
  Superior Academic Achievement (SAA): In order to be creditable under this provision, superior academic achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership.
  1)Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses.
  2) Grade-point average (G.P.A.)-- Applicants must have a grade-point average of:
  * 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or
  * 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.
  3) Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society -- Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies listed below. These honor societies are listed by the Association of College Honor Societies.
  -OR-
  Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, 6 months of the specialized experience described in A above (50% of the experience requirement), and 9 semester hours or 14 quarter hours of directly-related graduate level college study in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education). Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.
  
  Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
  
  You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".

  Education

  To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
  
  If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
