NOTE: These are part-time positions (16 hours/week). Benefits and time-off accrual will be prorated and based on your part-time work schedule.
These positions are located within the Environmental Management Service, Sanitation Section at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System in San Antonio, TX. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Sweeps and mops floors, dust mop, damp mop, in-depth cleaning of floor surfaces hallways and stairwells; strips, scrubs/refinishes and buffs titled floors; shampoos, vacuums and cleans carpets;
- Cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes all patient and public restrooms to include urinals, toilets, stalls, sinks, bathtubs, shower stalls, mirrors, restroom fixtures; spot clean walls and performs floor care as required;
- Performs high/low dusting, cleans exterior surface of light fixtures, vents, medical instrument panels, night stands, and beside tables, patient/visitor's side chair, overhead light fixtures, and other auxiliary items; dusts furniture, walls; cleans ledges, door frames, baseboards, corners, edges, hallways, stairwells, and high frequency touch points (doorknobs, handrails, and guards); cleans glass doors and other glass surfaces;
- Replenishes paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, etc.) soap, hand sanitizers, or other supplies utilized where dispensers are located;
- Checks products with expiration dates to ensure they are not expired;
- Moves and arranges furniture, beds, etc. in the assigned areas to accomplish cleaning tasks;
- Operates heavy-duty electrical equipment including wet and dry pickup vacuum, floor scrubbing, and buffing machine as well as other floor maintenance machines;
- Makes minor adjustments, cleans, and changes brushes, rollers, suffers, and other attachments on equipment;
- Empties trash and waste baskets and replaces trash receptacle liners;
- Transport refuse and trash to the established collection points;
- Performs terminal cleaning of patient-discharge, inter-unit transfer, and/or long term care patient units;
- Washes (with a germicidal/detergent solution) the mattresses, and bed frames following acceptable cleaning methods;
- Provides cleaning service to doctor's on-call (OD) rooms for professional staff;
- Prepares disinfectants and detergents in correct dilutions and selects the proper cleaning materials for the job;
- Maintains a stock of supplies and informs supervisor when replacement is needed;
- Follows aseptic techniques required in a hospital environment;
- Selects the proper tools (brushes, mops, cleaners, floor finishes, etc.) and mixes solutions and cleaners to the proper strength for the job to be performed;
- Sets up conference rooms for meetings as necessary;
- Ensures established infection control guidelines/procedures are utilized when performing duties in isolation, recovery, operating rooms, dialysis and patient care areas, exam rooms, and throughout the medical center; and,
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Saturday and Sunday. Must be willing to work rotating shifts (Day Shift; 7:30 am - 4:30 pm; Evening Shift; 3:30 pm - 12:00 am; and Night; 12:00 am - 8:30 am), weekends, and holidays. You may be assigned to work at the main campus (Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital) or one of the outlying clinics within the South Texas Veterans Health Care System.
