  Responsibilities

  As a participant in the Pathways Recent Graduates Program, you will receive both formal and on-the-job training to develop the required knowledge and skill to successfully perform the duties of the position. Those duties will include:
  

  • Applies archival methods and techniques to individual items and bodies of records and other documentary materials in a variety of media (paper, audiovisual, electronic, etc.) in order to accomplish projects and perform functions in support of an archives management, records management, or document collection management program of the Smithsonian Institution.
  • Provide records management assistance and guidance to offices throughout the Smithsonian Institution, including lifting and carrying boxes up to 1.5 cubic feet in volume and up to forty pounds in weight for purpose of transporting via walking and/or use of vehicular transport.
  • Provides support for records surveys, appraisal, records or document disposition, records transfers or document acquisitions, accessioning, arrangement, description, preservation, digitization, metadata documentation, and automation.

  Qualifications

  Experience:
  
  You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal service or comparable pay band system related to the work of this position. This specialized experience is defined as performing records surveys, records or document disposition, records transfers or document acquisitions, accessioning, arrangement, and description in an archives or library.
  
  Or Education:
  
  4 years above high school
  
  Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
  
  Or a Combination:
  
  Education and experience may be combined to meet the basic qualifications. For a full explanation of this option please see the Qualification Standards.
