Summary

About the Agency

The selectee for this position will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic in the Industrial Plant Services Division, Industrial Operations Management Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.

Duties

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

• Determines the methods, techniques, devices and materials that are best suited to the surface finish required.
• Uses skilled techniques to plastering methods and techniques.
• Constructs, maintains, installs, modifies and repairs electric power and lighting systems and all associated circuits.
• Lays out piping systems or sections and plans assembly in relation to walls, passageways, obstructions, underground tunnels, locations of machinery, appropriate places for holes and similar considerations.
• Perform a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures and utilities.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: experience performing the common and repetitive duties of Maintenance Mechanic: laying out work; determining material and equipment needs; accomplishing basic repairs; determining how or what repairs to make; completing all phases of work including work that requires close tolerances, precise fit and/or a finished appearance; using trade math to convert measurements; using blueprints, work orders and diagrams to complete the job in accordance with specifications, local and state codes; use and operate hand and power tools common to electrical, pipefitting, carpentry and/or painting trades; assisted mechanics in the electrical, pipefitting, carpentry and/or painting trades. My work is reviewed periodically and upon completion by a supervisor or higher journeyman for compliance to specifications.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Requirements:

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Work requires lifting and moving heavy items.
Work requires frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, working in cramped positions, and climbing.
Work requires exposure to high noise levels.
Must be able to wear personal type safety equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Selectee must obtain and maintain a current man lift and forklift license.
