About the Agency

This position is in our Office of External Affairs in Arlington, VA and provides communication clerical/administrative support to the Communications Manager located in Paris, France. Supports all internal and external communications efforts and assists with press relations, content creation for both internal and external products, administrative tasks such as ordering print publications, translating and interpreting numerous documents, and liaising regularly with employees to collect information and content.

There is a foreign language requirement for this position. Details are described in the "Requirements" section of this announcement.

The American Battle Monuments Commission, established by the Congress in 1923, is an independent agency of the Executive Branch of the Federal Government. The Commission is the "guardian of America's overseas commemorative cemeteries and memorials" and honors the service, achievements and sacrifice of United States Armed Forces at 26 overseas cemeteries that serve as resting places for almost 125,000 American war dead; on Tablets of the Missing that memorialize more than 94,000 U.S. servicemen and women; and through 29 memorials, monuments and markers.

Duties

The incumbent is responsible for performing the following administrative and clerical duties:
  1. Supports the translation, interpretation, and proofreading of internal and external communications materials from French to English and English to French. Prepares and coordinates the handling of documents for external translation contractors and the support of proofreading of said documents.
  2. Provides administrative coordination for film permit requests. Responsible for updating and control of press contact lists and monitors press returns overseas.
  3. Provides document management support and control on issues concerning communications, public queries, and tracking all communications efforts.
  4. Responsible for all administrative and clerical support for the social media manager and monitoring all ABMC social media channels.
  5. Develops, edits, and proofreads written information materials in French and English (brochures, articles, etc.) for approval by the communication Manager for dissemination through a variety of media (internal and external).
  6. Responsible for providing administrative support for internal events, VIP visits, and ceremonies.
  7. Manages the printing of over 150 ABMC publications for cemeteries under ABMC control.
  8. Composes correspondence or documents within the administrative support or clerical control of the office. Composes routine correspondence on other subjects as outlined in regulations and procedures or as specifically requested. Reads outgoing correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy.
  9. Reviews outgoing communication documents for accuracy, attachments, dates, signature, complete addresses, and destinations. Maintains suspense records on all correspondence and action documents and follows up to ensure a timely reply or action.
  10. Prepares in final form all types of documentation and forms incident to communications support.
  11. From rough draft, notes, or oral instructions, types correspondence, forms, reports, and specifications including a wide variety of technical terminology. Responsible for proper spelling, grammar, format, and arrangement of material.
