Fort Leavenworth Child and Youth Services (CYS) is recruiting Regular Part Time status Child and Youth Program Assistants for support staff for their activities throughout the installation. Regular Part Time employees are guaranteed 20 hours per week and are eligible for NAF Benefits.

Fort Leavenworth is the oldest continuously active military reservation west of the Mississippi River. Fort Leavenworth is considered a national treasure with historic sites and homes, a world-class museum, breathtaking views overlooking the Missouri River, scenic picnic areas and parks; the installation is also noted for the campus-like setting, open green spaces and hometown character - it's no wonder it is known as "The Best Hometown in the Army".

Child and Youth Services are essential family programs which directly support the military lifestyle and reduce the conflict between parental responsibilities and mission requirements. We strive to meet the needs of our patrons and the installation mission through these systems:
1) Child Development Services (Child Development Centers & Family Child Care)
2) School Age Center
3) Youth Services
4) Parent Outreach Services

These services are a supplement and support to our families who are the primary agents in the care and development of their children. CYS Services offers a range of age appropriate opportunities and activities for children and youth ages 4 weeks to 18 years.

Applicants chosen from this announcement can be selected for, or scheduled to work at any Fort Leavenworth CYS facility with an opening at time of application.

Duties

Major Duties will include, but not be limited to:

• Responsible for maintaining control of and accounting for the whereabouts and safety of the children and youth in care; assists is maintaining program participant data.
• Assist in preparing and carrying out planned activities for individual age groups and differing development stages within that age group.
• Interacts with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques in a positive nurturing environment.
• Observes participants for signs of illness, abuse or neglect, reporting each as necessary; notes and follows special instructions provided by parents, in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
• Sanitizes equipment and toys, noting and reporting any safety concerns.

Job Requirements

Key Requirements

Qualifications

For Entry Level (CY-01), candidate must:

• Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent (proof of education will be required before entry on duty)
• Be able to communicate in English (written and verbal)

For Target Level (CY-02), candidate must:

• Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent
• Be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal
• Possess 18 months experience working in a group program with children or youth, plus Army or other military service Foundation Level Training as evidenced by service-issued Certificate of Completion (Certificate must be uploaded with application.)

OR

• Possess 18 months of experience working in a group program with children or youth, plus an associate's degree or at least 60 semester ours of college credit which included a major course of study (24 semester hours) with content directly related to the age group to which assigned, for example: Child Development Centers: Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Elementary Education, Special Education; School Age: Elementary Education, Child Development, Youth Development, Special Education; Youth Services: Youth Development, Secondary Education, Human Development, Youth Program Administration, Recreation, Physical Education, or directly-related behavioral or cultural science (developmental psychology, child psychology/sociology, sociology of the family, gender identity, parenting. General psychology/sociology coursework is not qualifying.)

OR
One of the following:

• A bachelor's degree or at least 120 completed semester hours which included a major course of study (24 semester hours) with content as indicated above.
• Possess and maintain one of the following directly related to the age group of the position to which assigned: Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, Military School Age Credential, Army Youth Practicum, or other nationally recognized Youth Development Credential.

All qualifying criteria (transcripts, CDA, Army credentials, etc.) must be uploaded with application.
All incumbents must have completed high school, or have a GED equivalent. Proof of education requirement will be required before an official offer of employment can be given. You may upload your high school diploma or GED equivalent with your resume.

All applicants choosing CY-02 as the lowest acceptable level, you are required to upload transcripts/certificates with applications to determine eligibility requirements have been met (see "Qualifications" section). Applications without required documents will be considered incomplete and will receive no further consideration for employment for this announcement.

Conditions of Employment:

2. Satisfactory completion of a physical is required prior to Entrance on Duty. Immunizations may be required as a condition of employment for the health and safety of those in the facility, as determined by medical authority. Already immune individuals - based on documented receipt of vaccine series or doctor diagnosed illness - or those subject to religious exemption or contraindication are exempt from this requirement.
3. Appointment is subject to completion of a favorable background checks/investigation to determine suitability for this position.
4. Scheduled work hours can include early morning, daytime, evening, and weekend hours.
5. Applicants chosen from this announcement can be selected for, or scheduled to work at any Fort Leavenworth CYSS facility with an opening at time of application.
6. This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require contact with children.
7. Possess and maintain the ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds; walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
8. Incumbent is legally required to report all suspected incidents of child abuse/neglect.
9. Individuals who have been trained are required to administer routine and rescue medications prescribed by a physician to children/youth, perform CPR and first aid, and provide reasonable accommodation to children/youth with special needs.
10. Travel to/from on/off post locations may be required. Schedule may include irregular hours, evenings, and/or weekends. Duties involve working indoors and outdoors.
11. Successful completion of Annual training requirements within the prescribed time frame and demonstrated competence is required.
