TRIBAL PREFERENCE: "In employing individuals to perform any construction, maintenance, interpretation, or other service in the park, the Secretary (Selecting Official) shall, in so far as practical, give first preference to qualified members of the Tribe": (Timbisha Shoshone Homeland Act, Nov 2000). To receive current preference eligibility, members of the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe must submit a copy (not the original) of the letter certifying their tribal membership.

In October of 2015, Death Valley National Park's North District historic site Scotty's Castle suffered a great flood resulting in structural damage, the destruction of 10 miles of road and a complete loss of utilities. Damages are estimated at 50 million dollars and a timeline of 2 to 4 years of work to get this site back to its operational state. The flood recovery project is expected to begin April 2016 and conclude in April 2020.

This is a Full-Time TERM position. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed thirteen months, with possible extensions up to a total of four years without further competition.

Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will be paid if the selectee lives outside of the local commuting area and is otherwise eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with the Federal Travel Regulation.

Duties

The purpose of this position is to provide administrative information and assistance to the Superintendent or to the manager of the unit and staff on the practical and technical aspects of administration, to include budgeting, acquisition and property management, human resources and other administrative support services, and to perform staff support work in each of these areas. Coordinate travel and process travel vouchers, verify time and attendance, prepare correspondence and technical reports, proofread correspondence, maintain calendar, coordinate meetings, open and direct incoming mail and answer telephones, takes messages and interacting with visitors.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform successful the duties of an Administrative Assistant (OA).

Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position.

Examples of specialized experience may include: performing a wide variety of advanced administrative functions such as advising employees on payroll regulations and serving as payroll coordinator; serving as liaison with Human Resources by preparing and entering personnel actions, processing employee paperwork, and coordinating background investigations; serving as the technical advisor for travel processes and regulations; advising on procurement; and performing budget and financial management by collecting data for a budget, making recommendations, tracking expenditures, creating budgetary reports, and reconciling an organization's budget.

Selective Placement Factor: Qualified Typist: You must show proficiency of a Typing Speed of at least 40 Words per Minute (WPM). You must document your typing speed on your resume or upload a certificate of proficiency dated within the past 3 years.

Failure to provide this information will result in your being determined ineligible.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies."

• Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
• You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
• You are required to complete a one-year trial period beginning on the effective date of this appointment.
• You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 02 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
