Duties

These positions involve a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-06. At the GS-05 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-06. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.

These positions are located in the Consolidated Patient Accounts Center (CPAC) of the VA Medical Center in Middleton, WI. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Providing support to CPAC services including billing, collections, pharmacy claims processing, accounts receivable management, customer service, financial and performance reporting, patient access, insurance identification and verification, and quality assurance;
  • Collecting, analyzing, and preparing data for processing and providing clerical and technical support to CPAC operations;
  • Determining if insurance payments should be applied to Veteran co-payments;
  • Performing reviews of first party debts prior to the impact of payment offsets;
  • Processing Veteran pre-payment accounts and preparing public vouchers to balance accounts;
  • Validating pre-payment credits and misapplied payments;
  • Making adjustments to first party claims, linking payments, processing write-offs, and re-establishing and suspending claims;
  • Determining the appropriate fund and resource codes for the refund process;
  • Providing patient education and assistance via telephone or written correspondence to help them understand program requirements, benefits, and financial responsibilities;
  • Ensuring that all pertinent information is gathered and entered into automate systems in a timely and accurate manner;
  • Collecting, compiling, and/or tracking data for the preparation of statistical, financial, and/or administrative reports;
  • Preparing written documents such as correspondence, memoranda, reports, pamphlets, etc.;
  • Reviewing, routing, and preparing responses to correspondence as appropriate;
  • Answering questions and providing information in a courteous and efficient manner;
  • Performing related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.
