The selectee for this position will serve as an AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the Public Works Department of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.
Duties
The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
Dismantle, repair, and reassemble air conditioning components (e.g., pumps, impellers, compressors, chillers, receivers, evaporators) to return equipment to working condition.
Use gauges, voltmeters, amp meters, leak detectors, and recharge systems to check operation of equipment.
Troubleshoot refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, and related control systems (e.g., direct digital control [DDC]) to determine system operation and detect component malfunctions.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the work of an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic under normal supervision: 1) Interpret instructions, specifications and blueprints to repair air conditioning and refrigeration systems; 2) Trace and locate defects with HVAC, analog, direct digital control (DDC), and refrigeration systems to determine the type and extent of repair needed; 3) Install a variety of large complex commercial and industrial air conditioning and refrigeration systems.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Requirements:
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Must be able to obtain and maintain Universal Certification received from an EPA approved certifying program. May be obtained upon employment.
Emergency overtime and recall to duty may be required.
May require rotating shift work.
Selectee must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
Physical effort is required to maneuver equipment in and out of specific locations while dismantling and reassembling. The work requires frequently carrying and setting -up of parts and equipment that may weigh up to 50 pounds. Hoist, holders, and pulleys are operated when removing units such as large compressors, condensers, and chillers. The work requires repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms where the parts of systems worked on are frequently in hard-to-reach places; therefore, stooping, stretching, bending, and kneeling are frequent and may be for long periods of time.
Working both inside and outside on top of tall buildings, in drafty attic spaces, and in cramped areas with low overheads. Personal protective equipment such as protective clothing, helmets, goggles, respirators, etc. may be required to be worn when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants during regular maintenance and repair or when making emergency repairs.
