About the Agency

The Congressional Research Service (CRS), American Law Division (ALD), seeks an Administrative Support Assistant to serve as a central resource person for implementing and maintaining office control systems, and to devise and implement an automated correspondence and tracking system. The incumbent maintains a key role in an automated work assignment and tracking system (e.g., Mercury), transmits a variety of requests to managers, and edits as necessary, finished administrative documents for responsiveness and completeness. The incumbent integrates several types of software to generate specific working documents, and works closely with managers and staff on the Web Time & Attendance system. Experience with preparing documents for Continuing Legal Education purposes will be beneficial.

Candidates with demonstrated experience working with automated systems for the purpose of maintaining and tracking information are encouraged to apply.

The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area.

The incumbent of this position will work a fixed work schedule from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position.

The tour of duty for this position is full-time.

Duties

Acts as a central resource person for implementing and maintaining office control systems, such as those for the location, arrangement, access to, and use of division files, and for maintenance, transfer, and disposition of records. Has responsibility for a tracking system to maintain and secure division passes (such as LC stack passes) and keys. Devises and implements an automated correspondence status and tracking system which quickly locates and reports the status of any given piece of communication.

Facilitates CRS-wide communication by assuring that staff at all levels are fully informed on internal and LC-wide procedures. Initiates development of new or revised administrative policies and procedures necessary for efficient administrative functioning of the division, working with the supervisor.

Proofs and edits, as necessary, finished administrative documents for responsiveness and completeness. Checks accuracy of all references and citations and reviews attachments for relevance and completeness.

Integrates several types of software, such as spreadsheet, database, word processing, desktop publishing, and graphics applications, to generate specific administrative working documents and forms. Works closely with managers and staff on the WEB T&A system, and is the central point of contact.
