The Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a variety of education institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in Federal agencies and explore careers while still in school and getting paid for work performed.
This is a vacancy announcement for one or more locations throughout the Forest Service. The number and location of positions to be filled will be dependent upon individual unit needs. Apply only to those locations where you are willing and able to travel and/or relocate to. Some locations may have temporary housing available. The tours of duty include full-time and part-time schedules.
There may be multiple locations and positions filled under this announcement. These temporary positions will be filled as Intern Not to Exceed (NTE) appointments. The appointment may or may not be extended depending upon the unit’s need and funding.
These positions are located on various National Forests and supporting organizations in a variety of locations. They are targeted toward college undergraduates, though graduate students may apply. They will be filled at the GS-03 or GS-04 grade levels. The locations listed in this announcement are for recruitment purposes. These are not necessarily the actual duty locations where you will work. These positions are not career-ladder positions. However, should the supervisor determine that work may be performed at a GS-04 grade level, then the employee may be upgraded from GS-03 to the GS-04 grade level, provided the supervisor approves and the higher graded level was advertised within the original vacancy announcement.

Duties
This Pathways Internship position is located on a Forest Service unit and serves as an Intern Not to Exceed (NTE) in support of the Forest Service programs. This position is designed to provide a career-oriented introduction to the background, philosophy, concepts, and scope of the Forest Service administrative programs and a practical understanding of the policies of the employing organization.
Receives training in the principles, concepts, work processes, and regulations of one or more functional areas of Administration and Office Support. Work assignments are usually clear-cut and designed to provide experience in a variety of activities.
On a scheduled basis, following the Pathways Participant Agreement, receives assignments in various Administration and Office Support functions to gain an understanding of the various program concepts and operations, develop an understanding of the total mission as well as organizational/functional interrelationships, and gain work experience through temporary work assignments in the Administration and Office Support field.
Receives formal and on-the-job training in OPM, Department of Agriculture and Forest Service policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
Is instructed on the use of personal computers, and file and data management.
