Duties
The Medical Supply Technician positions are located in the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) Section at the VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care System, West Los Angeles, CA. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
·Determines proper sterilization method for all medical supply;
·Prepares to utilizes personnel protective equipment, and practice universal and standard precautions to prevent cross contamination;
·Assembles all trays or sets according to guides, procedures and processes;
·Operates automated cleaning devices, such as ultrasonic cleaners and washer decontaminators;
·Disassembles containers, sets and individual instruments in preparation for decontamination procedures;
·Performs daily sterilizer testing and utilizes chemical and biological monitors;
·Arranges items in a manner that will allow effective penetration of the sterilant and prevent contaminated loads due to improper loading;
·Prepares to prevent damage or contamination prior to reuse;
·Prepares proper sterilization method for all items to include correct sterilization cycles and exposure requirements such as time and temperature.
·Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00am-3:30pm or 2:00pm-10:30pm. Possible weekend rotation 7:00am-3:30pm or 2:00pm-10:30pm. With possibility of being on call Mon, Tue, Wed, Thurs, Friday including weekends and holidays.
Designated Drug Testing Position: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
