This position is located in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, in the Division of Maintenance, and supports the Facility Management program. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a temporary Facility Services Assistant, GS-1603-06 to assist permanent staff with their work.

This is a TEMPORARY POSITION that will generally last at least 3 months but no longer than 6 months (or 1039 working hours) within one service year. If you are hired from a competitive certificate for a temporary position, you may be eligible for non-competitive appointment to the same position (or another position with the same duties and grade within the same park) in following years.
Area Information: Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is located 10 miles west of Redding, California on State Highway 299. Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is managed by the National Park Service. Created as part of the California Central Valley Project, Whiskeytown's beautiful 3,200 acre lake contributes both drinking and irrigation water to northern California, and offers many recreational activities, including swimming from sand-covered beaches, scuba diving, kayaking, water skiing, boating and fishing. Its mountainous landscape offers opportunities for picnicking, hiking, hunting, and horseback riding. Historical remains of the 1850s California Gold Rush era, including the historic Tower House District and the Camden House, are found within the Park's 42,000 acres. Most Park employees live in or near the city of Redding, population 88,700, which has a fine variety of medical facilities, schools (including two colleges), restaurants, retail outlets, and both cultural and outdoor recreational activities. Housing is readily available with an average 3-bedroom house selling for about $240,000. Rent for a 2-bedroom apartment ranges from $525 to $720 a month, and a 3-bedroom house from $1,080 to $1,350 a month. The climate is Mediterranean, with moderate winters and very hot summers.
Duties
Utilizes various software systems and databases in order to support park, regional and departmental goals for reporting accurate and pertinent information in relation to park assets, maintenance and construction requirements, expenditures, and accomplishments. Enter data from a variety of sources, and updates program and supporting documentation required for the facility management system. Retrieve data and prepare reports for management from online databases for operational and fiscal purposes. Reviews and utilizes data contained in other software programs to accomplish tracking and reporting duties. Maintain records and database information in accordance with established guidelines. Utilize desktop computer systems, software and peripheral equipment to record and display data. Work with park management or higher graded facilities specialist to develop detailed procedural guidelines covering all aspects of the work and ensure they are available to all park management staff. Typically, these guidelines include locally developed equipment operating and document processing instructions that are directly applicable to the work performed. Assist in the training of park personnel in the application and use of these programs to ensure accurate information is documented and entered into the system as needed or requested by management. Performs a variety of other administrative support duties as assigned which will include but will not be limited to; assisting with payroll & time sheets, trail condition assessment documentation and data entry, assisting in employee credit card reconciliation, work schedule documentation, new employee payroll and time sheet orientation, official correspondence, safety meeting preparations and participation, occasional operation of a government vehicle, and general clerical duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is sedentary and performed in an office setting with adequate lighting, heating, ventilation, furniture, and equipment. At times, it may be required to take short walks to and from various locations within the park.
