The selectee for this position serves as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Naval Surface Warfare Center, CARDEROCK DIVISION at the Machinery Program & Platforms Department, C/20, Technology Deployment Branch, C/214.

Duties

Your duties as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN consists of but are not limited to:

• Utilizing technical engineering techniques to support the execution of ship alteration installation projects. 
• Providing technical advice to support senior management with the design, maintenance and repair of hull, mechanical and electrical equipment systems.
• Employing quality assurance standards to ensure ship alterations are in accordance with safety policies and guidelines.
• Interpreting drawings or manuals to determine technical validity of equipment readiness.
• Developing trainings to ensure trainees master ship alteration technicalities on written or practical tests.

Travel Required

• Occasional Travel
• TDY may be required for some extended periods of time.

• Relocation expenses (i.e. PCS) or relocation incentives as described in 5 USC 5753 may be authorized in accordance with applicable travel regulations, command policy and available command funding.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities, as they relate to this position. Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band (GS-10), in the Federal service, or equivalent experience in the public or private sector, defining project objectives to manage delivery of ship alteration installation, and providing technical advice to support senior management with the design, maintenance and repair of hull, mechanical and electrical equipment systems.

This position will necessitate the individual to be visiting & working on various naval ships on a regular basis which necessitates physical activity.
Work is performed onboard ship during onsite installation management.
Work requires frequent bending, stooping, and walking.
TDY may be required for some extended periods of time.
Must be able to obtain a final confidential security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position.  Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. 
This position has promotion potential to the 12 grade-level. If selected below the full performance level, incumbent may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.
