As a summer intern at HUD, you will activtely participate as a team member and assist in administrative tasks in support of day to day operations with the various program offices.
This position is being announced under the Pathways Student Internship Program. This Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed. This appointment may be extended depending on the organization’s needs and funding.
Duties
Receiving visitors and phone calls; composing routine correspondence, such as replies to requests for general information, or completion of standard form letters;
Establishing and maintaining office filing systems covering varied subject matter;
Arranging conferences and meetings, which include scheduling space, preparation of materials, notification of participants, greeting and signing in guests, etc;
Using personal computers with standard office software and HUD-specific programs to prepare letters, logging incoming correspondence and applications, performing calculations, completing forms, preparing, retrieving and updating standard reports, maintaining tracking systems, etc; copying, collating and assembling documents;
Opening and distributing mail; requisitioning office supplies and service calls for office machines; serving as backup for other office support staff; and
Assisting on special projects.

Qualifications

You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements by May 30, 2017. To qualify, you must demonstrate the following:
GS-03: Applicants must have completed one (1) full academic year of creditable post-high school education; or at least six (6) months of general experience as described below.
GS-04: Applicant must have completed two (2) full academic years of creditable post-high school education; or at least one (1) year of general experience as described below.
GS-05: Applicant must have completed four (4) full academic years of creditable post-high school study leading to a bachelor's or equivalent degree; or at least one (1) full year of specialized experience. Specialized experience is described as experience performing administrative, secretarial, or clerical duties to include reviewing and controlling mail, reviewing incoming and outgoing correspondence, and establishing and maintaining office records.
General Experience: Performing clerical duties such as filing, answering phones, greeting customers; responding to routine inquiries, performing data entry; and creating routine correspondence using a variety of automated systems.
Combining Education and Experience: Education and experience may be combined to meet the above grade level requirements. To combine your education and experience, you must convert each to a percentage, and then add the percentages. The combined total of your percentage of education and experience must equal at least 100% in order to qualify. Additional information on qualification requirements is outlined in the OPM Qualifications Standard Handbook of General Schedule Positions. It is available for your review on OPM's website at US OPM Qualifications Standards. Education: One (1) year of education is defined as two (2) semesters (30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours). The education must have been obtained in a high school/GED whose curriculum has been approved by a state or local governing body, or a home-school curriculum; and any accredited technical or vocational school, 2- or 4-year college or university, a graduate or professional school, or a post-secondary home-school curriculum.
