Makiungu Council Designated Hospital (CDH) is located about 31 kilometers from Singida. It is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Singida and managed by the Medical Missionaries of Mary. It was formerly under Singida Rural District but became part of Ikungi District since July 2013. It receives patients not only from Singida region but also from other distant regions, including Mbeya and Dar es Salaam. The hospital provides general Out-Patient Department (OPD) services as well as in-patient services with a bed capacity of 175, for a population of about 400,000. It provides all aspects of health care services including medical, nursing, laborartory, radiography, pharmaceutical, electrocardiogram, physiotherapy, opthalmology services as well as complementary alternative therapies.
