Duties

Stream 1 & 2:
Visitor services and revenue collection at entrance gateways, information/visitor centres, campgrounds, kiosks and on park, historic site or marine conservation area grounds to enhance the visitor experience.

Stream 2:
Operate a passenger vessel.

Georgian Bay Islands National Park is located in the heart of Ontario cottage country at the southern gateway to the world’s largest freshwater archipelago, the 30,000 islands. Within an easy drive to a huge potential market, this water access park offers stimulating opportunities and interesting challenges in ensuring visitors have access to a wide array of amazing island experiences.

Intent of the process

This process may be used to create a pool of qualified candidates to staff similar position (s) with various tenures, security levels and/or language requirements or in different locations.

Stream 1 & 2:
Secondary school diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience
Degree equivalency
Experience:

Stream 1 & 2:
• Experience in interacting with and anticipating/meeting public needs
• Experience in resolving complaints, anticipating/detecting incidents and finding solutions
• Experience in handling cash and operating point of sales
• Experience in maintaining/restocking supplies and equipment
• Experience in the maintenance of facilities

Stream 2:
• Experience in operation of a passenger vessel

Stream 2:
• Knowledge of safe boat operating practices

Operational Requirements:

The position requires the incumbent to:

Stream 1 & 2:
• Wear a Parks Canada uniform
• Work weekends, holidays and evenings
• Obtain MED A3 certification
• Make moderate physical effort to sit and stand for prolonged periods and/or to clean facilities/grounds
• Be exposed to variable weather conditions
• Be exposed to dust, cleaning products and wet conditions
• Be exposed to risk of minor injury when performing cleaning and maintenance activities
• Occasionally demonstrate tasks to others

Stream 2:
• Obtain Small Vessel Operators Proficiency Certificate

Conditions of employment

Stream 1 & 2:
• Reliability Status security clearance
• Possession of a valid class G Driver’s Licence
• Possession of Pleasure Craft Operators Card

The essential qualifications that are listed in the statement of merit criteria are mandatory. A pass mark will be established for each.
