Duties

As a Research Assistant, the successful candidate will work on analyses related to gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men and HIV-related outcomes. The Research Assistant will be part of a team that will summarize and report on the results of national surveys of gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men on topics related to HIV prevention, care and treatment. Duties will include:

(1) Conduct literature reviews related to the prevention, care and treatment of HIV among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men.

(2) Become familiar with the datasets that will be the foundation of this work. In collaboration with project team members, develop an analysis plan that includes variables to be used to answer specific questions. This will be reviewed and revised, in collaboration with project team members.

(3) Implement analysis plan by analyzing the datasets. Adjust the analysis plan, as necessary.

(4) Draft manuscript(s) for peer reviewed journal publication.

Work environment

The Enhanced HIV Surveillance Section, Public Health Agency of Canada, is responsible for the enhanced surveillance and reporting on HIV and other sexually transmitted and bloodborne infections among priority populations for guiding policy and program development within the Infectious Diseases and Public Health Branch. The student(s) will work closely with the Enhanced Surveillance Section Team to conduct a series of analyses.

Telework is possible, in which case all collaborative activities will take place by teleconference. This can be a challenging approach to collaborative research, and regular communication between the Research Assistant and the Team will be essential.

Education:

The student must be currently enrolled in: at least 2nd Year Master’s degree, or a PhD program with a specialization in Epidemiology/Biostatistics* in a recognized post-secondary academic institution with full-time status.

*Specialization in Epidemiology/Biostatistics is defined as having successfully completed at least 3 courses in Epidemiology and/or Biostatistics.
Degree equivalency
Experience:

Experience in analysing data using SAS (through coursework or work experience).
Experience in analysing datasets (through coursework or work experience).
Experience with conducting descriptive, bivariate and multivariate analysis (through coursework or work experience).

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Asset Qualifications:

Experience working on topics related to the epidemiology of HIV and other sexually transmitted and bloodborne infections (demonstrated through coursework or work experience).
