Legal Assistant Clerk Stenographer 11 Salary $42,443.12 - $47,990.48 annually - effective Feb. 4, 2018 There is one permanent position available in Vancouver. An eligibility list may be established for permanent and/or temporary opportunities in the BC Prosecution Service both in the Vancouver Region and Criminal Appeals and Special Prosecutions (CASP). In the Vancouver Region you may be required to work in Vancouver, North Vancouver or Richmond. Contribute to the administration of justice in a diverse legal environment by bringing your thoroughness, good judgment and initiative to this specialized role. The BC Prosecution Service contributes to the protection of society by preparing for and conducting prosecutions diligently and fairly, and by striving to develop the most effective methods to administer justice in the Province. The BC Prosecution Service prosecutes offences under the Criminal Code of Canada, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and provincial statutes in the Provincial, Supreme and Appeal Courts of British Columbia and in the Supreme Court of Canada. The BC Prosecution Service provides legal advice to government and police on criminal law matters, and develops policies and procedures on issues relating to the prosecution of criminal offences. In addition to providing a variety of legal support services for Crown Counsel you are also an integral point of contact for the public, police, and other BC Prosecution Service partners. You provide redaction services (at the advanced level) for the purpose of disclosure to Defence Counsel. You are responsible for providing witness management and financial functions. The Legal Assistant receives administrative supervision from the Legal Officer Manager or District Administrator and reports to Crown Counsel for daily assignments and direction. Your ability to deal with issues of a sensitive and confidential nature with tact, diplomacy, discretion and good judgment will prepare you to work effectively in a demanding environment where some of the most challenging criminal and appellate cases are managed. You are well versed in legal terminology, an accurate and efficient recorder and researcher, and adept at handling inquiries from a variety of persons, including those that are possibly irate or resistant. Working with limited direction, you exhibit exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders. Applicants who have completed online testing on previous Clerk Steno 11, Legal Assistant, CJB/BCPS competitions (within the past 6 months) may have their scores carried forward to this competition. Furthermore, online testing scores from this competition may be carried forward to subsequent CJB/BCPS competitions (for a period up to 6 months). Applicants selected to move forward in the selection process may be further assessed on the job requirements, including the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies, reflected in the attached job profile. A Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) and an Enhanced Security Screening will be required. Some travel may be required. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: 1. Online Questionnaire: YES - As part of the application process you will be prompted to fill out a questionnaire which must be completed in order for your application to be considered. You will need to complete it within 60 minutes or it will time out. There is no save option available. If you anticipate that the questionnaire will take longer than 60 minutes to complete, we encourage you to copy the questions and prepare your responses outside of the system and simply paste them into the online questionnaire when you are ready.
