Duties

The Detachment Services Assistant provides administrative and operational support services for police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. This position also provides front counter and telephone assistance, services and information to the general public.

Work environment

The majority of the work will be on site at the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation Satellite Detachment, but as the position reports to the Mayerthorpe Detachment, there will be requirements to train or work on site at the Mayerthorpe Detachment as required by the manager.

Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation is a friendly, thriving community of approximately 2000 people. The town is located in the middle of farming and cattle country, only 75 minutes away from Edmonton, 2 1/2 hours away from Jasper National Park, and on the route to the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Alaska.

Intent of the process

There is one (1) permanent, full-time Detachment Services Assistant position for the Mayerthorpe Detachment located in Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, Alberta. The intent of this staffing process is to create a pool to staff future full-time, part-time permanent and/or temporary CR-04 positions.

Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination
of education, training and/or experience.*

*Proof of education will be required prior to appointment.
Degree equivalency
Experience in the provision of clerical support services, including three of the following: data entry, preparing correspondence, ordering office supplies, filing, or processing mail.
Experience providing service to internal or external clients / general public, via telephone or in person.
Experience in using computer applications including two of the following: databases, spreadsheets or word processing.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
Successful completion of secondary school education.
Degree equivalency
Training and/or experience in providing financial support services such as the collection and recording of monies received, handling petty cash funds, verifying supplier invoices, preparing invoices.
Experience in manipulating data in an electronic database
Experience providing administrative support services in a law enforcement and/or legal environment
Experience transcribing from audio cassettes or digital media.
Experience working with Aboriginal communities and/or willingness to learn about Aboriginal culture.
Ability to transmit information.
Ability to speak the Stoney language.
Willing and able to work in a busy police environment, including exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Willingness and ability to work overtime, as required.
Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Willingness and ability to travel for work and/or training purposes using various modes of transportation (including owned or leased government transport, commercial and light aircraft and up to and including remote locations).

Reliability Status security clearance - » The successful applicant will have to obtain, as a minimum, an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status security clearance. The OEPAF is a competency evaluation tool used in staffing processes for administrative support positions. This skills test contains multiple choice questions. The scenarios are related to setting priorities, data entry, administrative document verification, and communication skills. This test will be used to evaluate the following merit criteria:
Ability to transmit information
Detail-oriented
Being organised
Action-oriented
The retest period for the OEPAF is 180 days. If you submit an application before the retest period has elapsed, your application will not be considered.

• A random or top down selection of candidates may be used in the determination of those to be given further consideration in the assessment process.
