  Responsibilities

  The Telephone Operator serves as the (Guest Relations Telecommunication Ambassador) for the Voluntary Services Section under the Associate Director for Patient Care Services / Nurse Executive for Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS), in Little Rock, AR. These duties include, but are not limited to:
  

  • Performs customer service guest relations communications support, shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, cooperation, concern, politeness respect and dignity to others.
  • Relates well to different people from varied backgrounds and different situations.
  • Receives, greet and direct callers over the telephone with precise clear instructions.
  • Provides information about the organization, its functions, activities, and personnel.
  • Provides general telephone and visitor referral services within both medical center campuses.
  • Directs Veterans, visitors and refer callers to appropriate staff member based on specific request or by determining the nature of the call.
  • Takes accurate messages and ensures their delivery.
  • Provides wayfinding and often take Veterans and visitors to locations when they have difficulties with instructions provided.
  • Provides excellent customer service via the telephone and face to face simultaneously.
  • Ensures customer is greeted with respect and dignity. Receive and distribute all incoming telephone calls and face to face inquiries immediate to calls for emergencies and VIPS that may enter the medical center.
  • Carries out required performance of this position as a Telephone Operator, for the Guest Relations Program of the Volunteer Service office at Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System.

  
  
  Work Schedule: Rotating Schedule: Monday-Friday, Nights, Weekends to support 24/7 operations 365 days per year

  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The Telephone Operator is required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time and sitting at computer for long periods of time. The incumbent must be able to operate a vehicle in a sitting position for prolonged periods of time in extreme weather conditions. The incumbent may be required to push a wheelchair, bend or kneel to obtain information or assist patients. The incumbent is required to carry light objects such as files, clipboards, medical records, etc.
  

  Qualifications

  GENERAL EXPERIENCE: GS-4: One (1) year of progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
  OR
  SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: GS-4: Two (2) years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
  OR
  COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: GS-4: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high education and experience may be used to meet the total experience requirement of the GS-4 level. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

  IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
  
  Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
