    This position is that of a social worker and is located in Mental Health Services, Naval Medical Center, San Diego, California. The employee provides a comprehensive range of complex clinical services, including psychotherapy to both inpatients and outpatients and their families, through coordinating and implementing discharge plans as a member of the medical/or surgical teams. Such services also necessitate case findings, crisis intervention, screening, review of medical history and current status, psychosocial assessment, referral services and case management prior to, during, and after hospitalization. The position also requires innovative program development and evaluation.

This announcement is open to accept resumes from candidates interested in helping the Department of the Navy meet our mission requirements for providing care for uniformed services' family members and retirees at Military Treatment Facilities around the globe.

    Responsibilities

    The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
    • Independently provide comprehensive social work services in the form of casework and case management by developing discharge plans, for complicated cases, psychosocial assessments and mental status examinations.
    • Act as a therapist in support groups for medical/surgical and psychiatric patients, including physically abused, terminal and mentally impaired patients.
    • Conduct quality assessment studies in insure high quality patient care.
    • Facilitate discharge planning meetings, presenting reports at team conferences, and developing patient education tools.
    • Actively involved in process improvement as demonstrated by, but not limited to developing tools for monitoring social work effectiveness, implementing groups, data base development and retrieval, developing public relations promotions suitable for Department of Defense wide as well as local audiences, research and publication..
