Responsibilities
This position is assigned to the Little Rock or North Little Rock Eligibility Center, Patient Eligibility and Intake Section of the Central Business Office. The individual selected for this position provides administrative support to designated patient care areas, with a strong emphasis on customer service and positive communications. Depending on the Unit assigned, the incumbent may perform any combination of duties, including maintaining current bed inventory and obtaining bed availability, beneficiary travel, and patient funds. Some of the duties and responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):
Processing applicants (to include interviewing individuals applying for medical benefits and verifying patient eligibility)
Provide administrative support and guidance
May be required to provide assistance to other Units or Sections as necessary (such as obtaining consents)
Perform other related duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 am-4:00 pm or 8:00 am-4:30 pm as best fits the needs of the Service Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required
Designated and/or random drug testing may be required
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
May be required to serve a probationary period.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The incumbent functions in a high stress area where there is constant demand for accuracy and services. Work involves sitting, standing, and walking throughout the assigned Unit and to adjoining Units. Some light carrying of forms and/or medical records is required. Incumbent may bend, stoop, or crouch when filing or retrieving records. He/she answers the telephone and types on the computer keyboard from a seating position.
Participation in seasonal influenza program may be required.
Qualifications
In order to qualify for this position, you must possess at least ONE of the following criteria:
Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specific qualifying specialized experience for this position (which should be documented on your resume) is: experience communicating effectively verbally about a variety of items, often in stressful situations; experience providing information (either verbally or in writing), which is easy to understand; experience explaining policies and procedures; and experience in working on projects/assignments involving multiple steps with minimal supervision.
OR Successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation (or the equivalent) is the normal prerequisite. NOTE TO APPLICANTS: One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED - If you do not submit a copy of your transcript, your application may not be processed.)
OR Possess equivalent combinations of experience and education as described above to fully meet the requirements of this position. For GS-5 level positions, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to l year of specialized experience. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
