    The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) agency.     Responsibilities


    Duties: As a Distribution Process Worker, you will be responsible for the following duties: 
    · Duties include stock selection, stow, research, location survey, physical inventory, material handling, material examining and identifying, packing, and operating Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
    · Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments. Checks accompanying documentation against container or packing labels. Follows established procedures in reporting over, short, misdirected, or damaged materials.
    · Packs and/or preserves a variety of items. Determines the materials, containers, devices and/or preservatives needed.
    · Assembles items for shipment in the loading area according to information provided on the shipping requests and checks the condition of shipping containers prior to loading. Ensures shipments are properly loaded onto the right conveyances.
    · Counts types and quantities of items during inventories, and maintains tally listings during the count. Recounts or searches other storage locations to assist in determining the basis for over, short, or misplaced items.
    · Operates one or more types of material handling equipment such as standard type forklift with a lifting capacity of up to 15,000 pounds, warehouse tractor, or general-purpose vehicle.
    Physical Effort: Work requires standing on hard surfaces maintaining balance for extended periods of time. Requires pushing, pulling and depressing various hand and foot controls which require bending, stooping, reaching, and twisting in tiring and uncomfortable positions, many times all at the same time. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds; may lift greater weights with assistance.
    Working Conditions: Work is performed within a warehousing environment. Work is usually performed inside. Poor lighting conditions may exist in some areas. Occasionally required to work outdoors to move items between warehouses in areas that are hot, cold, drafty or damp. When working outdoors, the employee is subject to prevailing weather conditions such as heat, cold, wind, and rain. Some exposure to dust, grease, dirt, solvents, and fumes. There are some risks involved with handling and processing of hazardous material. Individual is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, and abrasions. Working conditions are a normal part of the job and are considered in the evaluation of the position. Works on hard surfaces and regularly requires standing, stooping, bending, reaching, stretching, pushing and pulling. Work is performed at a relatively steady pace with an occasional requirement encountered to work rapidly to meet specific deadlines. Safety and Health Requirements: Employee is required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the job and work area where assigned. Types of protective clothing and equipment include, but are not limited to, the following: safety eyeglasses, respirators, and steel-toed shoes and protective clothing such as gloves, mask, apron, and coveralls. Other types may be required as deemed necessary by authorized management officials. Additional Work Requirements: Must obtain and maintain a valid State Driver's License and MHE license. Obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance. Occasional overtime requirement, and travel away from the primary duty station.
