• Summary

  The Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) mission is to create and maintain "FIRST CHOICE" MWR products and services for America's Army, essential to a ready, self-reliant force.
  
  The Area of Consideration for this vacancy announcement is those residing in the surrounding area (defined as Beauregard, Rapides, Sabine and Vernon parishes). (Military Spouse Preference (MSP) and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) Preference eligible candidates are included in the area of consideration.)
  
  This position is located at DFMWR/CRD, Community Recreational swimming pools located on Fort Polk.
  
  Per the Ft. Polk NAF NAIL Collective Bargaining Agreement Article 20/Section 3b, when Flexible employees work for a period of 180 consecutive days averaging twenty (20) hours or more a week, the employee should be converted to Regular Part-Time.

  Responsibilities

  
  

  • Serves as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager.
  • Employs safety rules for the protection of the pool guests.
  • Responsible for safeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility.
  • Provides maximum pool area surveillance and responds to emergencies; rescues pool patrons and administers first aid as required.
  • Adheres to Customer Service standards of the Installation.
  • Assists in maintaining pool, and area clean and free from any hazards.
  • Performs periodic water tests and reports results to the pool leader on duty.
  • Maintains daily logs, reports and records as required.
  • Lifeguards will participate in any required training (on-the-job training emergency rescue drills, emergency action plan simulations).

  Conditions of Employment:

  2. Possesses satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, 2-13, to include a National Agency Check (NAC).
  3. Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity. In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
  4. Lifeguards must have good vision (corrected vision if necessary) while on duty to effectively recognize all emergencies, incidents and rule breaking.
  5. Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
  6. May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements.
  7. Work hours may involve weekend, weekdays, holidays and night duty.
  8. Fifteen(15) year old lifeguards must comply with the restriction of the DOL Child Labors Law (Jan 17, 2006).
  9. All required certifications must be kept current.
  

  Qualifications

  Possesses and maintains the following certifications: (Certifications must be loaded at the time of application)
  1. Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS)
  2. American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED)
  3. First Aid
