This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-08. At the GS-07 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-08. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.
This position is located within the VA St. Louis Health Care System (VASTLHCS) in St. Louis, MO. The duty location will be the Jefferson Barracks Division; however, the duty station may be changed to another VASTLHCS location based on the needs of the medical center. The Human Resources Assistant - Credentialing and Privileging (C&P) provides technical guidance to services regarding the credentialing of approximately 900 employees and privileging of over 400 professional staff in accordance with JCAHO and facility policies and regulations.
The major duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Reviews credentials for appointments, reappointments, promotions, proficiencies, credentialing, privileging, reprivileging, reduction or revocation of clinical privileges, education and training requirements, etc.;
- Reviews all actions for technical soundness to ensure all requirements have been met;
- Provides technical training and guidance for services regarding the credentialing and privileging process in accordance with JCAHO and facility policies and regulations;
- Establishes and maintains credentialing files for appropriate clinical staff including those covered by fee basis, consultant, etc.;
- Maintains database program suspense system to ensure follow-up actions are taken as necessary;
- Serves as the liaison between the medical center and VISN offices for C&P issues;
- Reviews and prepares all documents for the Physicians Professional Standards Board (PSB) ensuring compliance with JCAHO and facility regulations;
- Serves as the PSB's Physicians' Credentialing and Privileging Coordinator and actively participates in the proceedings;
- Assures all required verifications functions have been successfully completed prior to appointment, reappointment and/or privileging or reprivileging;
- Reviews and prepares actions for all professional standards boards required for specific occupations;
- Maintains Nurse Professional Standards Board (NPSB) tracking log and prepares quarterly reports to VA Central Office (VACO);
- Analyzes problems and situations presented and provides advice and assistance both personally and through referrals to appropriate staff; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
