About the Position:
This is a permanent seasonal position located with the Corps of Engineers, Memphis District, Operations Division, Revetment section. Seasonal signifies an annually, recurring period of employment of less than 2087 hours per year. During non-work periods you will be placed in a nonduty, non-pay status.
Performs duties of a manual nature on floating plant such as mooring barges, mattress sinking plant, bank graders, towboats, snagboats, tugs, tenders, dredges, derrickboats, etc.
Performs work represented by (usually a combination of) handling and fastening lines to moor plant and to make tow; loading stores and supplies to and from plant.
Cleaning, washing, scrubbing, and chipping rust in connection with daily housekeeping and preparatory to painting; paints deck, superstructure and machinery works as helper in repair of machinery and equipment; heaves lead line.
Operates capstans, winches and similar deck equipment; greases and services deck equipment.
Travel Required
75% or less - Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) is about 75% of the time.

Conditions of Employment
Must Pass Drug Test-Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, "Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program," or a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

Qualifications
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Deckhand~ without more than normal supervision. Performing a variety of work involved in the maintenance and repair of the deck and general housekeeping functions on dredges, towboats, barges, or other floating plant vessels.
- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order)
Physical effort- Physical effort is required in the handling of heavy equipment and machinery. May lift up to 50 pounds or more. Work may involve long periods of standing, lifting, climbing, and walking. May be required to wear respiratory projection.
Working Conditions- Works inside and outside. Subject to falling overboard and hazards attending moving plant; also changes in weather condition. Uses common hand tools characteristic of indicated duties.
