  Responsibilities

  
  

  • Serves as a Child and Youth Program Assistant (CYPA) in one or more CY programs.
  • Maintains control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years.
  • Assists in providing and leading planned activities for program participants.
  • Performs the more routine simple child-care tasks, following step-by-step instructions.

  Conditions of Employment:

  2. Must be 18 years of age at time of employment.
  3. Must have current health assessment which documents good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and immunizations IAW current Army and DoD policy including annual influenza vaccinations.
  4. Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs., walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
  5. Incumbent is legally required to report all suspected incidents of child abuse/neglect.
  6. Individuals who have been trained will be required to administer routine and rescue medications prescribed by a physician to children/youth, perform CPR and first aid, and aid in providing a reasonable accommodation to children/youth with a special need.
  7. Travel to on and off post locations may be required.
  8. Schedule may include irregular hours defined as nights, weekends and/or split shifts.
  9. Duties involve working both indoors and outdoors.
  10. Successful completion of Entry Level training requirements within prescribed time frame and demonstrated on the job competence is required before non-competitive advancement to the next level of responsibility (CYPA Skill Level 3).
  

  Qualifications

  All applicants meeting the CY-01, Entry Level 2 minimum qualifications will be referred to the hiring manager. If selected, your rate of pay and level of position will be determined based off what is provided at the time of application but may be adjusted if required supporting documents are provided to the personnel office at a later time but prior to starting work.
  
  Minimally qualified candidates (CY-01, Entry Level 2) will:

  1. Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate, AND
  2. Be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

  Better qualified candidates (CY-01, Skill Level 3) will:

  1. Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate, AND
  2. Be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, AND
  3. Possess (3) months of experience working in a group program with children or youth PLUS Army or other military service Entry Level Training as evidenced by service-issued Certificate of Completion.

  OR

  1. Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate, AND
  2. Be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, AND
  3. Possess six (6) months of experience working in a group program with children or youth PLUS nine (9) semester hours of college credit with course content directly related to the age group to which assigned, for example:

  • Child Development Centers: Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Elementary Education, Special Education.
  • Note: General psychology/sociology coursework is not qualifying.
  • A one (1) year vocational certificate in child care or equivalent to other child/youth programs meets the intent of the education requirement but six (6) months of experience working in a group program with children or youth is still required.

  Best qualified candidates (CY-02, Target Level 4) will:

  1. Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate, AND
  2. Be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, AND
  3. Possess eighteen (18) months of experience working in a group program with children or youth PLUS Army or other military service Foundation Level Training as evidenced by service-issued Certificate of Completion.

  OR

  1. Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate, AND
  2. Be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, AND
  3. Possess eighteen (18) months of experience working in a group program with children or youth, AND
  4. Possess an Associate's Degree, or least 60 semester hours of college credit completed, either of which included a major course of study (24 semester hours) with content directly related to the age group to which assigned, for example:

  • Child Development Centers: Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Elementary Education, Special Education.
  • Note: General psychology/sociology coursework is not qualifying.

  OR

  1. Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate, AND
  2. Be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, AND
  3. Possess a Bachelor's Degree, or at least 120 semester hours completed, either of which included a major course of study (24 semester hours) with content directly related to the age group to which assigned, for example:

  • Child Development Centers: Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Elementary Education, Special Education.
  • Note: General psychology/sociology coursework is not qualifying.

  OR

  1. Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate, AND
  2. Be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, AND
  3. Possess and maintain one of the following Credentials directly related to the age group of the position to which assigned:

  • Child Development Centers: Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential

  PLEASE NOTE: The experience and education/certification must be reflected on your resume and supporting documentation such as
  transcripts, degrees, diplomas, certifications, etc. MUST be uploaded at the time of application to be considered eligible for this position and/or considered for CY-01, Skill Level 3 or CY-02, Target Level 4 positions.

  Education

  A High School Diploma, General Equivalency Degree/Diploma (GED) or transcript(s) MUST be uploaded at the time of application to be considered eligible for at least Entry level.
