About the Agency

The Area of Consideration for this vacancy announcement is Fort Wainwright and surrounding communities within 50 miles of the installation. This position is located at Outdoor Recreation, Fort Wainwright, AK.

Duties

Works as a Recreation Assistant (Ski/Snowboard Instructor) at the Whitetail Ridge Ski Area (WTR) instructing groups and individuals in daily and weekly ski programs, using a variety of teaching methods to effectively communicate to students who have a wide range of abilities and backgrounds. Teaches children as well as adults.

Ensures proper safety procedures are followed at all times and that students learn in a safe environment. Is responsible for ticket handling for groups of students and must maintain good internal control practices to keep track of these tickets.

Assists with program registration, equipment issue, ski lift, and cleaning duties.
Must be familiar with all programs offered by WTR, as well as be familiar with local area as the job requires providing a lot of information to guests. Must always maintain a positive attitude around and towards guests in order to project a positive image for WTR and our programs.

Qualifications

Must be an advanced skier/snowboarder with the ability to teach others. Must have or be able to obtain current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED training certification within 6 months of hire. Highly desirable knowledge in building and maintaining snowboarding course.
