Duties
MAJOR DUTIES:
This position works in the park's Ranger Division which includes interpretation, and cultural and natural resource management. This position serves as a front-line representative of the agency by working at the information desks of the monument's visitor contact facilities. Operates a cooperating association cash register in order to provide the public with a variety of interpretive media. Responsible for providing current, accurate information to visitors concerning monument features, facilities, events, programs and activities. Responsible for developing interpretive programs and media materials by independently collecting, organizing and researching materials from a variety of sources, selecting materials to fit the program purpose and specific audience. Researches, plans and presents a variety of interpretative programs related to homesteading history, environmental education, natural and cultural resources, including orientation talks, curriculum-based education programs, demonstrations, off-site programs and campfire programs. Assist with special event planning and coordination. Assists in the planning, design and installation of temporary exhibits. Operates a variety of audiovisual and other equipment. Creates special event fliers, site bulletins, or brochures using a computer. This position requires fee collections/money handling.

Homestead National Monument of America is located in southeastern Nebraska, four miles northwest of the city of Beatrice (population 13,000). Housing, shopping, medical services, educational, and recreational opportunities are readily available in the local community, and in Lincoln, (Nebraska's capital city (population 250,000) 40 miles to the north. Beatrice includes a high school, middle school, four public and two parochial elementary schools and a variety of pre-school programs, Southeast Community College, and an award-winning public library. University facilities, including the University of Nebraska, are available in Lincoln. Beatrice has an active arts community (including a community theater) and is home to a variety of organized sports leagues for all ages. Recreational opportunities vary and include such facilities as: hiking/biking trail system, state parks/recreational areas, new city water park, two golf courses, skate park, YMCA and much more. Weather conditions are moderate, ranging from 90 degrees in the summer to 15 degrees in the winter.
