Summary

About the Agency

The selectee for this position will serve as a Museum Technician (History) in the National Museum of the United States Navy of NATIONAL MUSEUM.

Duties

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:

• You will manage the processing and cataloging of Navy historic artifact collections including small arms, uniforms, edged weapons, artwork, memorabilia and archival collections.
• You will identify and document objects and prepare them for storage based on standards established by the Naval History and Heritage Command Museum Handbook and the American Alliance of Museums.
• You will manage the cleaning, sorting and marking of Navy historic artifact collections including small arms, uniforms edged weapons, artwork, memorabilia, and archival collections making minor repairs as necessary.
• You will perform routine docent duties, answering visitors' questions about naval history, and the history of the National Museum of the U.S. Navy.
• You will provide instructions and presentations to students, visitors, and the community related to the Navy's history.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to this position. Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience.

For the GS-09 position your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector demonstrating the following: 1) Presenting instructional materials to varied museum audiences; 2) Utilizing various computer programs to prepare a wide variety of reports and maintain scheduling calendars utilized by the museum. 3) Researching, registering and cataloging of collections of historical significance.
OR
2 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education in related fields of study of 24 hours of history or museum studies.
OR
master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the position.


For the GS-07 position your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector demonstrating the following: 1) Assisting with the collecting, processing, cleaning, sorting, packing, and shipping of historical artifacts; 2) Assisting with the researching, registering and cataloging of collections of historical significance; 3) Assisting with the inventories, cataloging, preserving, and storage of artifacts.
OR
1 full academic year of related graduate level education or superior academic achievement in related fields of study of 24 hours of history or museum studies.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
