The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to (1) temporary positions at North Cascades National Park, Washington.  Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow.  Anticipated Entry on Duty: November/2017

Duties


Incumbent provides a wide range of services to visitors such as assisting those who have lost personal items; administering first aid to injured visitors; performing emergency medical treatment to current level of training and responsibility; providing information regarding the need for and issuing various permits (e.g., camping and/or wilderness cabin permits); gathering information from reporting parties concerning accidents/incidents within the park area and notifying appropriate personnel for further action when necessary; performing minor maintenance duties to ensure clean, safe, and pleasurable visitation experiences for the public; restocking and/or requisitioning equipment/supplies as needed. Incumbent provides support to interpretive and other program personnel such as assisting with special event setup and take down; assisting in setting up museum exhibits; serving as a member of task and event-oriented teams; introducing programs presented by interpretive staff members; operating and maintaining audio-visual equipment; posting information at campgrounds, visitor centers and other locations; providing assistance and support to protection personnel (such as traffic and/or crowd control at park entrance stations and/or related locations); and assisting other park staff in the performance of work such as time and attendance reporting, travel assistance, and other administrative functions. Incumbent may monitor campground self-registration activities, checking on site availability and completing campground user compliance checks.
Primarily serves as visitor contact person and as a naturalist guide providing information and developing programs. May work out of doors in inclement conditions and throughout the recreation area.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and sedentary work is required.  Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight.  Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone in isolated locations.
