About the Position:
This position is located at the Rock Island Arsenal (RIA), US Army Installation Management Command, USAG-Rock Island Arsenal, Directorate of Emergency Services, Physical Security Division, Rock Island, IL.The position is located on the Rock Island Arsenal which is part of the greater Quad Cities area. The Quad Cities area is located on the Mississippi River and has all the advantages of a large major city to include minor league sports teams, large shopping malls and discount stores, museums, theaters, art galleries and a zoo. The installation is unique in that it is an approximately 950 acre island in the middle of the Mississippi River.
As required by 5 U.S.C. 3310 and 5 CFR 330.401, guard positions are restricted to preference eligibles.
Nonveterans may be appointed to guard positions only if no qualified preference eligibles are available or through certain noncompetitive actions or temporary appointment
This position will be filled on a permanent basis.

Duties
As a Security Guard you will be responsible for the following: -Perform installation access, usage of physical access control equipment and visitor access on military installations.
-Safeguard Government personnel, information, operations, and critical assets in accordance with a wide variety of Federal rules and agency/local regulations/policies.
-Operate the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal in accordance with (IAW) federal and state law.
-Conduct foot or vehicle patrol of perimeter and roadways.
-Conduct traffic stops at the Installation Access Control Point (IACP) for safety and security checks.
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
One year of specialized experience such as: Enforcing specific rules, regulation or procedures covering enforcement of installation rules, policies and regulations; Contributes to the safety and wellbeing of military and civilian personnel, and the general public; Deal with persons who resist detention, attempt to flee and pose a treat; Exercise of safety precautions when working around moving vehicles or conducting patrols near hazardous materials or explosive; Well-established visitor, traffic and patrol functions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

This position has been designated as a non-critical sensitive as defined in DoD 5200.2-R, and requires you to possess, or obtain and maintain for the duration of employment, a Secret security clearance.
This position requires you to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
This position requires you to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment and annual physical examination.
This position requires you to pass an initial and annual physical agility test.
This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to successful completion of urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter. This position also requires DA Form 5019 (Condition of Employment for Certain Positions Identified as Critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program) to be signed.
This position requires you to possess, or obtain and maintain, a valid U.S. driver's license.
This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 (18 U.S.C. 922), authorizing you to carry/possess a firearm and/or ammunition. This Amendment makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
This position requires you to carry a firearm in the performance of your duties and participate in semi-annual firearms testing and qualification.
This position requires you to possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
