Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.
This is a TERM position and is expected not to exceed 2 years. The initial appointment for this position will be for 366 days and may be extended for up to a total of 6 years.
This position has the potential to be converted to a career or career-conditional appointment.
NOTE: This is an "Obligated Position". In filling the obligated position, the selected employee is required to sign an agreement acknowledging that he/she is aware of the obligation and accepts the fact that he/she may be displaced under reduction in force procedures at a later time.
About the Position:The mission of the Denver Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) is to process individuals for enlistment or induction into the armed services, based on DoD approved peacetime and mobilization standards. The Denver MEPS is one of a network of 65 MEPS located nationwide and in Puerto Rico. You will serve as a Processing Technician (Office Automation) providing additional administrative assistance with the transportation arrangements for military enlistees.
Duties
Prepare required transportation orders from the services using the designed orders program.
Conduct travel briefing and provide meal checks to traveling recruits shipping out of the MEPS.
Monitor airport delays, closures or bus route delays impacted by weather.
Coordinates travel arrangements with senior service liaisons, airlines, the DTMP, and Commercial Travel Office (CTO) to secure airline tickets.
Conducts the pre-enlistment and/or the pre-accession interviews of applicants in order to gather information previously not disclosed which would bear on moral or physical suitability for enlistment.
Performs Quality Review/quality control of applicant records, packets and forms.
Determines types of orders and pertinent information from enlistment document.
Maintains records of orders, distributes copies of transportation orders and enlistment contracts.
Forwards obsolete orders to the National Archives Records Center.
Provide monthly Government Travel Registers (GTR's) and meal checks log in accordance with regulation 55-2.
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: conducting briefings and/or trainings to personnel or individuals; questioning applicants and/or individuals to obtain information; experience using a personal computer or computer terminal for word processing and/or database management; making travel arrangements; prepare orders and/or documents for travel.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Education substitution for Experience: To qualify based on your education you must have at least successfully completed a four (4) year course of study above high school (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience:
To qualify based on a combination of experience and education you must have the specialized experience listed above, but less than one year and have less than four years of education above high school as described above. You must compute the percentage of requirements that you meet, and the total must be at least 100%. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 36. Add the two percentages. The total must equal 100 percent to qualify. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Foreign education must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency in order to be considered for this position. You must include this information with your application package.
Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute for experience. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position requires a personnel security background investigation.
This position requires a qualified typist; able to type at least 40 words per minute.
This position may require the incumbent to work occasional Saturday and/or shift work.
This position will require the incumbent to work occasional unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on the daily mission requirements.
This position may require business travel up to 5% of the time.
