Duties
The Orthopedic Technician will be working at the VA San Diego Healthcare System, San Diego, CA. This position is located in the Nursing Service and the OPD Clinics.
Major duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
WORK SCHEDULE: MONDAY - FRIDAY, 8:00 A.M. TO 4:30 P.M.

Major duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Applies splints, put plaster and synthetic casts on patients, remove sutures, change dressings, and applies braces that are dispensed in the out-patient clinics;
- Applies splints, puts plaster and synthetic casts on patients, removes sutures, changes dressing and applies braces that are dispensed in the out-patient clinics;
- Adjusts, removes, repairs bivalve, wedge, and window casts;
- Reinforces the teaching of the medical information given by the physician regarding the specific injury, treatment plan, procedure, and expected outcomes;
- Makes and maintains accurate progress notes and records in charts for every patient encountered, documenting care provided;
- Preps and drapes patient after demonstrated competence;
- Assists in all common orthopedic surgical procedures, applies Continuous Passive Motion Machines in and out of the Operating Room;
- Performs wound care and debridement, splint extremities, applies and removes dressings and assesses condition of wounds;
- Outlines types of x-rays used in fracture diagnosis.
